Random team generator
Paste a class list or roster and split into fair, random groups. This random team generator is built for teachers, PE, game night, and standups — balanced teams, optional keep-apart pairs, then print, copy, or share.
Groups: how many teams. Size: max people per team.
Keep-apart is best-effort. If a pair still ends up on the same team, a yellow warning appears with the results — change the number of groups or drop a pair and generate again.
How to split into groups
Paste names, one per line or comma-separated. Choose Number of groups when you know how many teams you want, or Group size when you know how many people should be in each team (for example groups of 4). Generate, then copy, print, or share the result.
Need one name instead of teams? Use the random picker from list. Need only two choices? Use the coin flip.
FAQ
How do I split a class into groups of 4?
Choose "Group size", enter 4, paste your student names, and click Generate teams.
Is the split random?
Yes. Names are shuffled with a cryptographically secure random source, then placed into the smallest groups first so teams stay balanced.
Will keep-apart always work?
No. It is best-effort. If the group count makes a split impossible, we still show teams and a warning. Change the number of groups or remove a pair, then generate again.
Only two options?
Use the coin flip for a quick either/or, or the random picker to draw one winner.
