An animal sounds game exists because early years often want a hear-and-match round they can finish in a minute, not a long clip and not a printable sheet of twenty-five words. Streaming nursery pages train sitting still. Bingo cards train covering squares with a dauber. How to play this animal sounds round

When the page loads, a round is already drawn: you should hear a tone and the animal name unless Mute is on. Four tiles show names. Tap the name that matches the sound. A correct tap shows Yes — that matches and locks the grid; a miss shows Try another tile so the child can try a different tile. Press Play sound to hear the same round again. Press Next round for another unused animal. Press Reset pool to shuffle the full list back in; the status will say Animal pool reset, then a new round starts. The line above Mute reports how many are left in this pool, including the current card. If the pool is empty you will see No animals left in this pool. Reset the pool. How the animal pool and tones work

The locale dataset is a list of animals with a name and a tone code. TheOwlBay.kids.makePool shuffles ids with crypto.getRandomValues and pops one card per Next round. Remaining ids are saved under theowlbay.animal-sounds.pool in localStorage so a refresh does not replay the same order from scratch unless you reset. Distractor tiles are three other animals from the same list, shuffled into a four-tile grid. Play sound runs the oscillator for that tone code and may speak the name with the page language. Mute skips both. We do not claim this is a field recording, a veterinary course, or a physics experiment. It is a fair shuffle in the browser. Empty and reset strings tell you whether to restock. Wrong taps stay visible so a child can self-correct; the grid only locks on a correct match. TheOwlBay does not store a high score on a server. Clear site data if you want the saved pool gone from this device.

Who this animal matching round is for

Reception teachers, speech warm-ups that need animal names, and caregivers with a shared tablet will get more from this than from a generic wheel. It is classroom-safe by design: short rounds, no comments, no video. It is not a wildlife documentary, not a farm-cam, and not a bingo caller. If the group needed a whole sheet of words to cover, print bingo cards instead. If they needed a letter without an animal picture, use random letter or the phonics game. Vehicle parts is the sibling when the prompt should be a bus wheel, not a lion. Parents who wanted background music should look elsewhere; Mute exists so a quiet classroom can still tap.
