Why a sweepstake generator is not a bracket

A hat draw answers who gets which team, horse, or film. A tournament bracket answers who plays whom. Football squares fills a score grid. Publish-by for US basketball is early March 2027 (Selection Sunday 14 March; Madness 16 March–5 April). Women’s World Cup 2027 can reuse the same URL with a new team list. How to draw from the hat

Paste people in the first box and teams, horses, or films in the second, one per line. Press draw from the hat. Read the pairs, then copy pairs or print. If counts differ, leftover lines show what was not paired. Add names or items and draw again. Both lists can sit in localStorage. You need entries in both boxes or the page asks you to add them. Share a result URL if it fits; long Oscars lists may print cleaner. Do not paste a full World Cup 2026 recap — that tournament ended 19 July 2026; use current teams.

How 1:1 pairs are made

Both lists are shuffled with crypto.getRandomValues and zipped together until the shorter list runs out. Leftover names or leftover items are shown with a leftover label so the room can add a guest or retire a team. There is no weighting and no “protected” seed unless you simply omit that line. We do not fetch FIFA, NCAA, or racing data. We do not score your bracket. localStorage is this device. The draw is not a sealed server envelope; it is a browser shuffle you can repeat if the room agrees.

Who this hat draw is for

Offices running a team sweep, families drawing horses, and film clubs assigning Oscars pictures before 14 March 2027. It is for 1:1 assignment, not for playing the matches.
